In Game 1 on Monday, John Patterson will face the Mets for the second time this season. On May 1, Patterson pitched six innings, giving up three runs, striking out four and walking three. Patterson did not figure in the decision as the Nationals lost the game, 6-3.
In his last start, Patterson pitched five innings, giving up two runs on three hits against the Pirates as the Nationals prevailed, 3-2.
On Sunday, Brian Schneider's home run in the top of the 12th inning helped the Nationals defeat the Cubs, 5-4, and sweep the three-game series in front of 40,006 at Wrigley Field.
The last time the Nationals swept the Cubs at Wrigley Field was back in June 3-5, 1994, when they were known as the Expos.

Infielder Rick Short is looking to make his first start in the big leagues. He is 1-for-2 with an RBI this season. If he is to play the field, Short likely will get the time at first base.
