Orioles at the plate: Top prospect Nick Markakis went 4-for-4 against the Nationals. He had two doubles in the game and is now hitting .356 this spring.

Nationals at the plate: Royce Clayton drove in the only run of the game when he hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in Ryan Zimmerman in the bottom of the fourth inning. Zimmerman stole his first base of the spring.

Orioles on the mound: Bruce Chen pitched five solid innings and gave up one run on three hits. He struck out five batters and walked one. Cory Morris pitched two shutout innings.

Nationals on the mound: Ramon Ortiz had his best outing of the spring, pitching six shutout innings. He gave up five hits and struck out two. Reliever Felix Rodriguez pitched two shutout innings.

Grapefruit League records: Orioles 8-13; Nationals 6-17-1.

Up next: The Nationals travel to Lake Buena Vista, Fla., to play the Braves at 7:05 p.m. ET on Friday, while the Orioles return to Fort Lauderdale to play the Red Sox at 1:05 p.m.
