Nats ready for showdown against Pedro

The Nationals hope to snap their three-game losing streak as they take on the Mets at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium on Wednesday night.

It's Round 2 between Mets' right-hander Pedro Martinez and the Nationals. The last time they met was last Thursday. There was a heated incident between Nationals outfielder Jose Guillen and Martinez. It was a game in which three players were hit by pitches. Guillen and teammate Nick Johnson were twice hit by pitches, while Mets catcher Paul Lo Duca was beaned once.

In the third inning, with Jose Vidro on first base and no outs, Martinez hit Guillen on the hip. Guillen stood in the batter's box for a few seconds and then walked to first base.

Two innings later, with the Mets leading, 5-2, Martinez hit Guillen on the right elbow with a pitch.

Guillen glared at Martinez and started to charge the mound. He was stopped by home-plate umpire Ted Barrett and Lo Duca. The right fielder pointed his bat at Martinez, and both benches and bullpens emptied. No punches were thrown.

Warnings have already been put in place before the rematch. Tony Armas Jr. is expected to start for the Nationals, and he said the warnings will not affect him on the mound.

"I'm just going to go with the way I pitch. I'm not going to change anything. I'm not going to lose my mind thinking about I'm going to hit somebody or I'm not," Armas said. "I have to go with my game plan and try to get a win."

Pitching matchup
WSH: RHP Tony Armas Jr. (0-1, 3.60 ERA)
Once traded from the Red Sox to the Expos for Martinez, Armas looks to have another pain-free outing.

NYM: RHP Pedro Martinez (1-0, 6.00 ERA)
He will pitch in warmer weather, so he should have a better performance on Wednesday.

Player to watch
Brandon Watson has not been the table-setter for the Nationals. He is 4-for-23 (.174) and has not scored a run this season.
