O'Connor gets call to face Marlins

MIAMI -- Mike O'Connor would probably like to forget his last start against the Marlins.

O'Connor was pulled out of the game in the second inning after giving up five runs on four hits, including two home runs.

The young lefty was sent down to Triple-A New Orleans following the start to make room on the roster for Alex Escobar, who was coming off the 15-day disabled list.

Facing him on the mound will be Dontrelle Willis, who has won his past two decisions and has not gone less than seven innings in a start since May 27.

The Nationals will close out their three-game set against the Marlins on Wednesday afternoon, then after an off-day Thursday, they'll return to RFK to open a three-game set against the Cubs.

Pitching matchup
WAS: LHP Mike O'Connor (3-6, 4.32 ERA)

FLA: LHP Dontrelle Willis (6-7, 3.80 ERA)
Willis took a no-decision in his last start, though he allowed just one run over seven innings of work.
