ANAHEIM -- Nationals manager Davey Johnson announced before Tuesday's game against the Angels that Pat Corrales will be the team's new bench coach. He'll begin the job Friday at home against the Pirates.
Washington's bench coach from 2007-08 and for part of the '09 season, Corrales has already been a consultant with the Nats, and he has nine years of managerial work under his belt.
"He has been going around the Minor League system and here and has a great pedigree and will be a great addition," said Johnson.
John McLaren resigned from the position after he was the team's interim manager in the aftermath of Jim Riggleman's departure.
"Now I am not the oldest member of this team," Johnson said. "If anyone picks a fight with me, they will have to go through him."
