The Nationals' right fielder suffered a mild strain fielding Ian Kennedy's single in the fifth inning, but he remained in the game and had two more at-bats in the 2-0 loss to the D-backs. Both Werth and Johnson said they will see how the right fielder feels before Wednesday's game before making any decisions.
"It's really mild. I don't think it's going to be a big deal," Werth said. "Whether Davey wants to play me tomorrow or not, I don't know. You get dinged up and that's part of it, but I don't think it's anything that should keep me out too long."
Werth singled and reached second in the sixth, then struck out to end the eighth inning before Brian Bixler entered as a defensive substitute.
"I took him out because I was going to have to pinch-run for him," Johnson said. "He said he could hit, but he probably wasn't going to be able to score."
