Marlins at the plate: The Marlins offense was held in check for most of the game, but came alive in the ninth, with an error that kept the inning alive. Alejandro De Aza and Josh Willingham struck out twice in the game, but De Aza scored one of the runs in the ninth off Cameron Maybin's two-run homer.

Nationals at the plate: Aaron Boone drove in the first run of the game, when he singled to left field to drive in Austin Kearns. Dmitri Young played his first spring exhibition game and went 2-for-3 with a walk.

Marlins on the mound: Left-hander Mark Hendrickson pitched five innings and gave up one run. He struck out six and walked none.

Nationals on the mound: Right-hander Tim Redding pitched five shutout innings and gave up just one hit. He struck out four and walked one. Left-hander Eude Brito didn't allow a run in one inning.

Grapefruit League records: Marlins 12-6-1, Nationals 7-8-2.

Up next for Nationals: The Nationals play split-squad games against the Indians on Friday. In the 1:05 ET afternoon game in Viera, Fla., Washington left-hander Matt Chico will face Cleveland left-hander Jeremy Sowers.

In the nightcap, which will be played in Winter Haven, Fla., at 7:05 p.m., Nationals right-hander Jason Bergmann will oppose Indians right-hander Jake Westbrook.

Up next for Marlins: The Marlins return to Jupiter, Fla., on Friday afternoon to play the Mets. Game time is at 1:05 p.m. ET. Florida right-hander Ricky Nolasco will face New York right-hander John Maine.
