Milledge leads Nats' homer barrage

Nationals at the plate: Justin Maxwell hit a three-run homer as part of a seven-run sixth inning that put Washington in command. Lastings Milledge added a tape-measure solo shot that cleared the berm beyond left field. Nick Johnson went 3-for-3.

Tigers at the plate: Curtis Granderson went 2-for-3 with a double to push his average over .300 for the spring.

Nationals on the mound: Starter Tim Redding tossed five scoreless innings for the second time in six days, this time allowing five hits and a walk. Joel Hanrahan added two scoreless innings.

Tigers on the mound: Jeremy Bonderman battled command issues before leaving after 4 2/3 innings with two runs allowed on five hits and three walks. Tim Byrdak suffered the bulk of the damage in the sixth with six runs allowed.

Grapefruit League records: Nationals 9-12-2, Tigers 11-10-2

Up next for the Tigers: The Tigers have their only full off-day of the spring on Wednesday before returning to action Thursday evening against the Braves at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex. Justin Verlander will make his fifth start of the spring opposite Atlanta's Tim Hudson in the 7:05 p.m. ET start. Denny Bautista, Yorman Bazardo, Todd Jones, Aquilino Lopez, Zach Miner and Clay Rapada are also slated to make the trip, as is every position player except Gary Sheffield. The broadcast will be available on Gameday Audio.

Up next for the Nationals: The Nationals also have Wednesday off before playing Thursday night. They'll host the Astros in a 7:05 p.m. start at Space Coast Stadium. Odalis Perez, Luis Ayala and Chad Cordero are the scheduled pitchers for Washington.
