Lo Duca's CAT scan on hand negative

NEW YORK -- Nationals catcher Paul Lo Duca had a CAT scan on his right hand on Thursday and the results were negative. However, he has soft tissue swelling, which will be treated as a contusion. Lo Duca is listed as day-to-day.

"I'm glad there is nothing going on in there. I tried to hit again today, and it hurts to the point of contact," Lo Duca said. "I'm just going day-by-day. It feels a little bit better. It hurts taking soft-toss. I can only imagine when a guy is throwing."

Lo Duca hurt his hand when he was hit by a pitch by the Braves' Jeff Bennett on Sunday at Nationals Park. He had an X-ray that day, and the results were negative. Lo Duca has missed the last three games because of the injury but was hoping to play against the Mets, the team he played with the previous two years.

"[The Nationals] are down there struggling, and I want to help them," Lo Duca said. "I just can't right now."

In the meantime, Johnny Estrada and Wil Nieves most likely will split time behind the plate. Estrada is still in a rehab mode while recovering from an elbow injury. Nieves received the start against the Mets on Thursday.
