WASHINGTON -- Nationals right fielder Elijah Dukes suffered a left ankle contusion in the series opener against the Brewers on Friday night and is listed as day to day.
In the fifth inning, Dukes fouled a pitch off his ankle. He finished the at-bat by grounding out to Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder. Dukes was in obvious pain, because he didn't run hard to first base.
Dukes stayed in the game for another half inning before being replaced by pinch-hitter Rob Mackowiak.
This is Dukes' second injury this season. He missed 34 games with a right hamstring strain.
