Lo Duca makes spot TV appearance

WASHINGTON -- Catcher Paul Lo Duca and Jose Rijo, the special assistant to general manager Jim Bowden, appeared on the Nationals television broadcast on Saturday night because analyst Don Sutton was suffering from laryngitis.

Lo Duca revealed during the game that third baseman Ryan Zimmerman was playing with a sore left shoulder.

Lo Duca was working out in the Nationals clubhouse when a representative from the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network asked him and Rijo to appear with play-by-play man Johnny Holliday.

"I had a good time. It was fun," Lo Duca said. "It's definitely a different perspective watching the game. It does look a lot easier on TV."

Lo Duca is not sure if he wants to be a TV analyst once his playing days are over. He acknowledged he wants to play a few more years in the big leagues.

Lo Duca, who is on the disabled list due to a fractured right hand, is expected to return to action after the All-Star break.
