The Washington Nationals will honor local military veterans during the annual Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) Night Presented by Miller High Life on Wednesday, August 1. The night will serve as the third game of the 2012 Patriotic Series, a series of games during which the team will encourage fans to celebrate the American spirit by enjoying the national pastime at Nationals Park.
As part of Miller High Life's "Give a Veteran a Piece of the High Life" program, the evening will begin with a special pregame event at the 1st Street Party Tent from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Select veterans will also participate in the pregame ceremonies, taking part in the Ceremonial First Pitch, Lineup Card Delivery, Starting Nine and "Play Ball!" Announcement before the Nationals take on the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:05 p.m.
To mark the occasion, Nationals players and coaches will wear the team's patriotic uniforms featuring the Stars and Stripes Curly "W." The day's events will supplement various patriotic programs already in place at Nationals Park, including the In-Game Military Salute during every home game and the "Me and a Friend" initiative, which offers military children complimentary tickets for themselves and friends to enjoy each Sunday home game.
