Zimmerman's recovery time is listed as six weeks.
Zimmerman's shoulder had given him problems since early April. He landed on the 15-day disabled list because of shoulder inflammation and returned to action in early May. He had four cortisone shots on the shoulder during the course of the season.
The injury did not stop him from having a solid season. In 145 games, Zimmerman hit .282 with 25 home runs and 95 RBIs. He was also 8-for-21 (.381) in the National League Division Series against the Cardinals.
Also on Thursday, infielder Chad Tracy had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, performed by Dr. Wiemi Douoguih at the Medstar Washington Hospital Center. Tracy is expected to be ready for Spring Training.
Tracy was Washington's best pinch-hitter, going 12-for-46 (.261) with a home run and a team-leading 11 RBIs.
