Nationals recall, reinstate Ryan Zimmerman

The Washington Nationals today recalled from rehab and reinstated third baseman Ryan Zimmerman from the 15-Day Disabled List and optioned third baseman Anthony Rendon to Harrisburg of the Double-A Eastern League. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Zimmerman, 28, rejoins the Nationals after being placed on the 15-Day DL on April 21 (retroactive to April 18) with a left hamstring strain. He missed 14 games, during which the Nationals went 6-8.

Zimmerman is hitting .226 (12-for-53) with two doubles, a triple and one home run this season. His 11 RBI were tied with Bryce Harper for the Nationals team lead upon being placed on the DL. He is a .287 career hitter with 252 doubles, 154 homers and 604 RBI in 1,005 big league contests.

On Wednesday night, Zimmerman played in one rehab contest for the Potomac Nationals of the Single-A Carolina League. He finished 0-for-3 as Potomac hosted the Carolina Mudcats (Indians).

The 22 year-old Rendon (RHEN-dohn) went 6-for-25 (.240) with a double, one RBI, five walks and two runs scored in eight games with the Nationals. On Thursday, he went 2-for-3 with a walk in Washington's 3-1 victory at Turner Field.
