Nationals' outfield depleted by injuries

Nats' Dukes, Kearns out with ailments

WASHINGTON -- Nationals outfielders Elijah Dukes and Austin Kearns were not in Monday's lineup against the Pirates. Kearns has a sore left hand, while Dukes has left hamstring tightness.

Manager Manny Acta said that Kearns took batting practice before the game and is available to play in the late innings.

Dukes hurt his hamstring for the second time Sunday against the Phillies. He is listed as day-to-day.

"It's something we need to monitor," Acta said about Dukes. "We don't want to put him out there if he's not 100 percent. The doctor took a look at him today and he is doing some exercises and we are going to be careful with it."
