WASHINGTON -- Left-handed pitcher Xavier Cedeno arrived at Nationals Park on Monday morning after being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. He's wearing No. 64 and will work out of the bullpen.
"I feel good. I'm ready to go," Cedeno said. "I've been throwing the ball good lately, and hopefully I can keep doing what I'm doing."
Cedeno was called up after starter Ross Detwiler was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an oblique strain. The 26-year-old reliever allowed one earned run in 10 2/3 innings while with Syracuse, with 14 strikeouts. He started the season with the Astros before the Nationals selected him off waivers on April 23, giving up eight runs in 6 1/3 innings over five games with Houston.
"I know a little bit about him," manager Davey Johnson said Monday. "He was in Houston. He throws in the low 90s. … He's an option for today. I'm not sure who we want to dress after today and what we'll do after tomorrow. Maybe after tomorrow, we'll do something with him the next day."
