Nationals re-sign righty Young to Minors deal

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals have re-signed right-hander Chris Young to a Minor League contract, MLB.com has learned. This will be Young's second season with the organization.

The Nats haven't confirmed the signing.

This past season, Young signed a Minor League deal with Washington before he opted out and was unconditionally released on March 26. He re-signed with the organization a few weeks later and had an injury-filled season. While with Triple-A Syracuse, Young suffered a neck injury and didn't pitch after May 26.

Young pitched a combined 37 innings and allowed 28 runs for Syracuse, Class A Auburn and the Gulf Coast Nationals.

Young, 34, has been in professional baseball since 2001, when he was drafted by the Pirates. But his best season was in 2006, going 11-5 with a 3.46 ERA for the Padres. In nine big league seasons, Young is 53-43 with a 3.79 ERA. Young has also played with the Rangers and Mets.
