Top-prospect status motivating Goodwin to improve

VIERA, Fla. -- Nationals outfielder Brian Goodwin, who was rated by MLB.com as the top prospect in the Nationals' farm system in 2013, will be the first to say he needs to improve his game. And being the top prospect motivates him to work even harder.

In his second year in professional baseball, Goodwin had an up-and-down season for Double-A Harrisburg, hitting .252 with 10 home runs, 40 RBIs and 19 stolen bases.

"I want to improve everything -- baserunning, hit for contact, improve my bunting, setting up before pitches, getting good jumps, getting good reads," Goodwin said. "I want to touch a little bit of everything. I want to get where my game is polished. I want to do everything with the best of my ability."

Goodwin is a non-roster invitee to Spring Training and will likely start the season with Harrisburg.
