Washington Nationals to "Take the Field" at the 2014 Dream Gala

The Washington Nationals and the Nationals Dream Foundation will "Take the Field" in celebration of the team's community achievements at the ninth annual Dream Gala on Saturday, May 31 at the brand new Marriott Marquis Washington DC. Guests will have the opportunity to mingle with Nationals players and coaches at the event, which serves as the primary fundraiser for the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation.

The Dream Gala will feature a cocktail reception and silent auction followed by a dinner program emceed by MASN analysts Bob Carpenter and F. P. Santangelo, as well as a live auction hosted by Nationals broadcasters Charlie Slowes and Dave Jageler. The Marriott Marquis, the Annette M. and Theodore N. Lerner Family Foundation, Cushman & Wakefield, the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company and Ira & Marcia Wagner are the major sponsors of this year's event.

To date, the Dream Gala has netted more than $3.4 million for the Dream Foundation's three cornerstone programs, which focus on children's health, education and recreation:

  • The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy: In partnership with the District of Columbia, the Academy uses baseball and softball as vehicles to promote positive character development, academic achievement and improved health among at-risk Washington, DC youth. Located in Ward 7's Fort Dupont Park, this unique facility opened officially in March 2014, and includes three baseball fields, classrooms and an indoor fitness area.
  • The Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex at Children's National Medical Center: This world-class facility opened its doors in June 2013, and offers a multi-disciplinary approach to supporting children with diabetes and their families. With state-of-the-art treatment rooms and a multi-functional education center, the facility houses various resources to empower families battling diabetes.
  • The Neighborhood Initiative: Grants and in-kind donations are awarded through this initiative to local nonprofit organizations that are dedicated to improving the neighborhoods surrounding Nationals Park and beyond. To date, the foundation has donated more than $488,000 to nonprofits that make a difference in children's lives.
