WASHINGTON -- Nationals manager Matt Williams was on the losing side of a crew-chief review during Tuesday night's game against the Mets at Nationals Park after Jayson Werth was called out at home trying to score from second on an Adam LaRoche single.
Left fielder Eric Campbell fielded the sixth-inning hit cleanly in and fired a one-hopper to catcher Travis d'Arnaud, who tagged a sliding Werth in plenty of time. But Williams contested that d'Arnaud had blocked the plate, a violation of Rule 7.13.
Home-plate umpire Paul Nauert and the rest of the crew heeded Williams' argument and congregated to review the play. After 1 minute, 22 seconds, Nauert confirmed the call on the field that Werth was out and d'Arnaud had not blocked the plate.
