The Nationals' outfield absorbed another blow Wednesday morning when they placed outfielder Brian Goodwin on the disabled list with a left groin strain, retroactive to Aug. 14.

Nationals manager Dusty Baker would not commit to it fully Tuesday, but it appears almost certain that right-hander Stephen Strasburg will be activated from the disabled list and rejoin the team's rotation for his next start.

Brian Christopher Goodwin...Played collegiately at Miami Dade College and the University of North Carolina...In his lone season at Miami Dade, hit .382 (60-for-157) with 11 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 37 RBI, 16 stolen bases and a .492 OBP in 47 games...In the summer of 2010, hit .281 and stole 15 bags for Harwich of the Cape Cod League...In one season at UNC, earned a spot on Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team (.291, 13 doubles, eight triples, seven home runs, 63 RBI, seven stolen bases, 47 runs scored, 45 walks in 60 games)...Was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in North Carolina...Hit .473 as a junior and led Rocky Mount (NC) High to first state championship in 28 years.
