Bogar returns for his second season as Washington's first base coach - his 10th season as a Major League coach...Under Bogar's guidance at first base, the Nationals ranked second in the National League in stolen bases (119) and stolen base percentage (78.3%) in 2018...He also serves as Washington's infield instructor...Bogar came to the Nationals after spending two seasons (2016-17) as the Seattle Mariners' bench coach...A veteran Major League coach, Minor League manager, and one-time interim manager for the Texas Rangers (2014), Bogar last manned the first base coaches box for the Boston Red Sox in 2009... Bogar spent the 2015 season as a Special Assistant to the General Manager with the Los Angeles Angels...He served as the bench coach for the Rangers in 2014, and eventually manager...In 2013, he managed Los Angeles Angels' Double-A Arkansas to a 73-66 record and a second-half Northern Division championship... Bogar spent four seasons on the Major League coaching staff with the Red Sox (2009-12), as first base coach (2009), third base coach (2010-11), and bench coach (2012)...Bogar filled the role of quality assurance coach for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008, working alongside Dave Martinez, after four seasons managing in the Minor Leagues - where he took teams to championship series four times, including winning the Appalachian League title in 2004

PLAYING CAREER
Bogar played parts of nine Major League seasons, appearing in 701 games for the New York Mets (1993-96), Houston Astros (1997-2000) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (2001)...He was a part of three consecutive National League Central titles with the Astros...Primarily a shortstop during his nine-year Major League playing career, Bogar appeared at shortstop, third base, first base, second base, left field, and even pitched twice...He was selected by the New York Mets in the eighth round of the 1987 Draft and went on to hit .228 with 69 doubles, nine triples, 24 homers, 161 RBI, 143 walks and 180 runs scored in his career.

PERSONAL
Timothy Paul Bogar is a native of Indianapolis, Ind. and graduated from Buffalo Grove (IL) High School...He attended Eastern Illinois University where he was named Mid-Continent Conference MVP in 1987...Bogar resides in Trophy Club, Tex. with his wife, Wendy, and their four children: sons T.J. and Ty, and daughters Aralee Anne and Jesse Lynn.
